I'm not only a wheel builder...
Whilst custom wheel building, wheel repair and hub servicing is what I mainly do with Strongheart, I also take on other work throughout the year. |
I have been working in the cycling industry as a mechanic and wheel builder since 2017. I continue to work as a professional mechanic, not just to supplement my income but to keep my hand in mechanics. Not only are there new products and innovations cropping up frequently that I want to learn about but, as with any muscle, or skill, if you don't use it, you lose it. My previous experience is quite varied! I worked as a mechanic at 73 Degrees bike shop in Keynsham. I may be biased but, it's probably the best bike shop in the South West of England! If you haven't visited, pop in. The team is very friendly and exceedingly knowledgable. Another reason I keep my hand in mechanics is so that I can work at events for groups like Sisters In The Wild! For the Summer Gatherings, I've delivered basic trailside how to sessions, such as how to fix punctures or to index gears while out on a bike, and, as part of the Mechanics School, I co-delivered a session on replacing a spoke and truing a wheel. At the 2022 East Devon Rally, I worked as a trailside mechanic for riders with mechanical issues at the route's mid-point rest stop. These events are a real highlight throughout the year! I love teaching! I have delivered a practical wheel building course in conjunction with Women In Tandem which was a huge success and would love to do more of this. I was also a tutor at the Bristol Bike Project on the Saturday maintenance courses. Occasionally, I have also delivered private one to one or small group maintenance sessions that can be tailored for specific requirements. I'll also happily model your merchandise!
